Of Phones and Photos

Ever since a tiny human entered our lives, I've been on a major photo-taking spree. To say the amount of photos I import daily from our camera and I scroll through regularly on my phone's camera roll is immense is a complete understatement. And, while I really enjoy the act of taking the photos and subsequent viewing of them on my screens, the real joy and beauty of these photos comes when I can touch them, when I can physically hold them in my hands, scan over every detail of his face and pixel of the image and comment on who he looked more like that day.

Since I don't think I'm alone in the veritable worshipping of my child (frankly, this is the closest I've come to believing in a god and his name is Noam), I've come up with a few options for taking those photos from your camera and phone and turning them into physical objects like prints and books. The options are easy, relatively affordable and high-quality, so you can feel good about how those photos turn out and where they end up.

Minted

Did you know Minted offers custom photo art? I love that they have options ranging from just a straightforward photo print that you can have matted and framed to a more stylized print. And how cute would this letter style print be for a nursery?

Shutterfly

Shutterfly's endless options and really reasonable prices make it a go-to for us. You can order prints, books, photo gifts, cards and calendars that'll arrive quickly and look great. Get 25% off photo books and gifts with KNOT25ORDER at checkout and sign up for their email newsletter to get 50 4x6 prints free.

Snapfish

Similar to Shutterfly, and quick and inexpensive, Snapfish is another favorite of ours for ordering lots of prints in a hurry. And, while I'd say it's less refined than some other options on this list, Snapfish is also awesome for getting photo gifts like a custom throw pillow or iPhone case. There are always discounts available, so be sure to check out their deals section before placing your order.

Artifact Uprising

Probably my favorite of these that I've tried so far, Artifact Uprising offers great quality prints and really cool gifts like this print + wood block set, a customizable wooden photo storage box, this wood calendar, and beautiful holiday cards. They're not inexpensive, but I think they're worth it. And for the month of September, they're offering 25 prints for free (just pay for shipping) if you sign up for their email.

Social Print Studio

FKA Prinstagram, Social Print Studio is very similar to Artifact Uprising and offers a lot of print options for your mobile and desktop photos. I love its variety of options like large format prints and minibooks, and that you can order directly from its iPhone app

PostalPix

Exclusively for mobile photos, PostalPix offers both iPhone and Android apps to order photo prints in both standard photo sizes and square format. Their prints are more expensive than some other options but the convenience of quick upload and ordering from your phone might be worth it. And, while their offerings are somewhat barebones, I love their aluminum prints option.

Pinhole Press

Pinhole Press's tagline is 'beautifully simple photo gifts' and I think that's hit the nail on the head. They offer some unique photo gifts that are great for kids like these photo puzzles, a photo board books and this name and photo book. Get free shipping on orders over $55 and save 25% on calendars and holiday cards with 2015JOY at checkout.

Impressed

Specifically for mobile photos, Impressed's iPhone app allows you to create and order prints, books and wall decals quickly. I'm a big fan of their Instagram for inspiration. Sign up for their email newsletter for 15% off.

Blurb

Exclusively for photo books, Blurb offers high-quality, easy-to-create books that can be made in several different sizes. I love that they have a ton of options you can choose to create the perfect book for your purpose and the fact that they have professional design templates available for a variety of different types of books. They also offer 7x7 Instagram books, if you're looking for an Instagram-only option. Save 40% until September 21 with code RECORD40.

Milkbooks

The most elegant of the options, Milkbooks creates stunning, super high-quality photo prints and gifts. I love the Moleskine photo books and their notecards and postcards that come in three finish options. Milkbooks is definitely on the pricier side, but they're offering 33% off right now with AUTUMN33 at checkout and up to 60% off wedding albums.

Adorama

A great option for ordering lots of prints (we ordered all of our wedding photos from it), Adorama offers super fast, high-quality prints at good prices, as well as books, cards, art and calendars. They also have an iPad app so you can order a photo book on-the-go. Pro-tip: when ordering prints, avoid choosing their auto-correction, which can discolor or make photos look dark, and select the luster finish - it's beautiful.
